The Pacific Coast Ecosystem And Summer Sports

British Columbia , Canada
July 2006

Geographically stunning, the Province of British Columbia is an amazing outdoor classroom, which offers a variety of sports and safe contact with nature. We were based on Vancouver Island and experienced a range of accommodation, from camping on the shores of a mountain lake, self-catering in a cottage overlooking the Pacific Ocean and fully catered high up in the mountains of Strathcona Park . Throughout this time we enjoyed the spectacular scenery of snow capped mountains, crystal clear lakes, rivers and wide-open ocean beaches. On our final night we stayed in a hotel in Vancouver giving us the opportunity to explore this wonderful city and do some shopping before travelling back home.

This expedition was suitable for children age 7 and above who love summer sports and the natural world!

Activities: whale watching, bear watching, biking, high ropes course, rock climbing, hiking, sea and lake swimming, campfires, buying and preparing food including BBQ, shopping and dining at the spectacular “Top of Vancouver” revolving tower.

Educational Focus: geography (environmental literacy), the Pacific Ecosystem, coniferous forest, marine and freshwater ecosystems. Life skills including problem solving, self-awareness and acquiring confidence. Team building and a strong emphasis on physical activities and a wide range of sports.
